DC Has Plans For A “Super Pets” Movie

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a dog?!

That’s right: DC is now planning on making a movie based on superhero pets. According to Den of Geek, DC and Warner Brothers are hoping to make an animated movie currently titled Super Pets. Not much is known about Super Pets right now, other than Jared Stern will be writing and directing the movie alongside Sam Levine. Levine has worked on a number of Disney animated movies and Stern wrote screenplays for both The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie.

DC has plenty of super powered animals in their roster, including Krypto the Super Dog, Streaky the Super Cat, Ace the Bat-hound, and so many more. Presumably this movie would follow the adventures of any one of them. The movies villains could be Dex-Starr: an Earth cat who became a member of the Red Lantern Corps, or any one of Catwoman’s cats or the Penguin’s penguins.

Krypto the Super Dog is probably the most well known of the super pets. The dog first started appearing in comics in 1955 and, in 2005, starred in his own cartoon series simply titled Krypto the Superdog which aired on Cartoon Network. Ace the Bat-hound also debuted in comics around the same time as Krypto and made cameos on Krypto the Superdog, but most DC fans probably remember the version of Ace that appeared in Batman Beyond.

It might be interesting to see what Warner Bros does with these classic characters. Hopefully we’ll be able to find out more about this movie beyond its expected release date in Spring 2022.
