David O. Russell and Christian Bale In Negotiations For Film With New Regency

An upcoming film is brewing with a powerhouse cast as Silver Linings Playbook director David O. Russell has recently completed a screenplay in which he will direct with Christian Bale slated to star according to Deadline. The untitled film is currently being negotiated with New Regency through a venture with Fox/Disney. Plot details for the film are under wraps at the moment, with the project expected to enter production this April. Matthew Budman will serve as the film’s principal producer.

The film is expected to reunite Bale and Russell for the first time since their work on American Hustle in 2013. The two men saw their best work in 2010’s The Fighter, in which Bale won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Dicky Eklund and marked his first of four separate Oscar nominations. The Fighter tallied seven nominations in 2010 including a nod for for Best Picture as well as a nod for Best Director.

Bale is coming off the heels of James Mangold’s Ford V. Ferrari, which starred him opposite Matt Damon and recently accumulated four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Russell’s last directorial effort was in 2015 when he filmed Joy for Fox. New Regency has currently released two Oscar-nominated films this year with Greta Gerwig’s Little Women and Roger Egger’s The Lighthouse.
