David Cronenberg’s ‘Maps to the Stars’ First Trailer

Teenage heartthrob Robert Pattinson (Twilight) co-stars in David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars, which just dropped its first trailer. Cronenberg is teaming up with Pattinson again, following up the duo’s last film, Cosmopolis (2012). Maps to the Stars jarringly examines how Western culture is affected by Hollywood from the point of view of the famous (fictitious) Weiss family.

Pattinson acts as the role of the family’s limo driver, while John Cusack (High Fidelity) and Olivia Williams (An Education) play a life coach and his wife, the parents in this satirical drama. The wife manages the acting career of her thirteen-year-old son, characterized by Evan Bird (Chained), who has recently gone to rehab. The characters quests towards stardom are hindered by unstable family connections. Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) plays the estranged pyromaniac daughter, Agatha, just released from a mental facility. Julianne Moore (Magnolia) is aboard as well as an actress who is one of Cusack’s clients, with things getting even more twisty when she hires Agatha as her assistant.

Cronenberg is well known for challenging his audiences with his subject matter, and from this first glimpse it appears Maps to the Stars’ is no different, offering an original interpretation of how Hollywood can fuel unethical relationships.

A release date is still yet to be announced, but the pic is expected this year, likely after some kind of a festival run.
