A new Scream film is in the works, and David Arquette has already signed onto the project to reprise his original role as Sheriff Dewey Riley. The new project is backed by Spyglass Media Group who created a whole re-launch of the Scream franchise and hopes to bring as many original cast members as possible for the fifth movie.
“I am thrilled to be playing Dewey again and to reunite with my Scream family, old and new. Scream has been such a big part of my life, and for both the fans and myself, I look forward to honoring Wes Craven’s legacy,” said Arquette in a statement.
The film’s plot is entirely under wraps, and nothing has been released to the public yet but, the script will be an original story from James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick. Vanderbilt previously wrote the screenplays for Murder Mystery, Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man, and Busick wrote Ready or Not, Castle Rock. Additionally, Vanderbilt, Paul Neinstein, and William Sherak will all serve as producers, while Tyler Gillett of Radio Silence will take on the role of director.
In a statement, Radio Silence remarked, “It’s impossible to fully express how much Wes Craven’s work and the Scream movies in particular mean to us as fans and have influenced us as storytellers. Kevin Williamson’s incredible stories have entertained and inspired us for decades and we’re insanely honored to have the opportunity to be a part of the cinematic world Wes and Kevin so brilliantly created together.”
