Dave Franco Set to Direct Rom-Com ‘Somebody I Used To Know’; Starring Alison Brie, Jay Ellis, and Kiersey Clemons for Amazon

Dave Franco, who made his directorial debut with the thriller The Rental last year, has a new directing gig lined up. From a story he co-wrote with long-time partner Alison Brie (GLOW), Franco will direct the rom-com Somebody I Used To Know for Amazon Studios.

According to Deadline, Brie, Jay Ellis (Escape Room), and Kiersey Clemons (Sweetheart) are set to star in the rom-com.

Somebody I Used To Know follows workaholic Ally (Brie), who spends a night reminiscing with her ex-boyfriend Sean (Ellis) on vacation to her hometown, which causes her to rethink everything about the decisions she’s made and the person she’s become. Things get even more perplexing when she meets Cassidy (Clemons), a younger lady who reminds her of herself.

“Alison and I love romantic comedies and were inspired by the classics from the ’80s and ’90s,” said Franco about his upcoming film. “We couldn’t be more excited about working with Jay and Kiersey, who are both extremely natural performers, capable of bringing fun and drama in equal measure. And we’re so grateful to have partnered with Amazon Studios, who have been incredibly supportive in helping bring this project to life.”

Brie is currently filming the TV series Roar, about women confronting a new ridiculous paradox or difficulty in their lives. She can be most recently seen in Focus Features’ Promising Young Woman.

Ellis can be seen next with Tom Cruise in the upcoming highly anticipated Paramount sequel Top Gun: Maverick. He currently stars in the HBO Emmy-nominated series Insecure.

Clemons is currently filming Warner Bros. The Flash as Iris West, which is expected to be released next November.

It is being reported that Franco is set to reprise his role as Jack Wilder in Now You See Me 3. He is currently filming the comedy Day Shift alongside Jamie Foxx.

No release date has been set for Somebody I Used To Know.
