Dave Bautista Joins Cast Of Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’

Back in 2016, there was the announcement of a Dune remake, with later news revealing that Denis Villeneuve, the excellent director of Arrival, Prisoners, Sicario, Enemy and the brilliant Blade Runner 2049 will be helming the project. The stars of the film so far consist of Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible: Fallout), Timothée Chalamet (Beautiful Boy) and most recently Dave Bautista, according to Deadline.

This film will reunite Bautista and Villeneuve, their previous collaboration being Blade Runner 2049. Bautista’s breakout role was as the strong headed but loving warrior Drax in the extremely successful Guardians of the Galaxy 1 and 2. Although Bautista’s role is being kept under wraps, it is still extremely exciting to hear furthering developments for the film.

Despite this exciting new film being made, some may remember the original 1984 film of the same name directed by David Lynch. The film was met with mixed reception and underwhelming box office revenue most likely due to the constant fighting done between Lynch and the producers of the film. Dune, however, is a cult classic among sci-fi fans. Hopefully, Villeneuve will be given complete artistic freedom as his most recent effort proved that he can create a thoughtful, interesting, beautiful and brilliant sci-fi film that not only stands on its own but is able to stand alongside the original.

Keidan Chavez: I am an undergraduate attending Whittier College majoring in screen writing and journalism. I love to watch movies, play Red Dead Redemption 2 and read whenever I get the chance. I will watch anything related to Wright, Tarantino, The Coen Brothers or Nolan. I will also play anything made by Naughty Dog or Rockstar Games. I love being able to experience great stories, especially when I am able to share that experience with others. I also love learning about movies and sharing that knowledge to those that are just as passionate.
