Besides the hype around getting to see two iconic superheroes face off in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, there was plenty more that secretly awaited fans. The epic also included introductions of other DC comic book heroes – Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), The Flash (Ezra Miller), Cyborg (Ray Fisher), and Aquaman (Jason Mamoa) – all of whom are set to appear in both upcoming Justice League films. And while each one will be getting their own standalone installment in due time, Miller is already facing competition because his speedy character is currently featured in the CW series The Flash. It will be important for the actor to make the hero is own, and according to one of the head producers, Deborah Snyder, the upcoming film will surely satisfy any of those worries.
In Dawn of Justice we saw a quick glimpse of the super-speed of Miller but also a strange moment when he reaches out to Batman (Ben Affleck) during a dream. It wasn’t made clear as to what that connection will have in Miller’s film, but while speaking to Forbes Snyder revealed that the tone will be quite different from the formerly mentioned, especially since Cyborg will join The Flash for a noticeable amount of time.
As you can imagine, when we get to the Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice camaraderie with each other. Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them.
Words like “funny” have not really been a part of the DC Cinematic Universe so far, with some of the biggest complaints having been pointed towards the extreme darkness of their past films. If Snyder’s comments come true, it will be nice to get good look at Cyborg because he doesn’t get his own standalone until 2020. And comparing to Marvel‘s already huge universe, Snyder said that theirs will be a “director-driven company” and that “it’s all about the director’s point of view and what they can bring to it.” Zack Snyder has definitely made his mark on Man of Steel and Dawn of Justice, and with the first-time director Seth-Grahame-Smith helming The Flash, there will more than likely be a very different tone to it than previous DC installments.
Grahame-Smith has written the alternate-history novels Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, both of which he adapted into screenplays. Considering his work is pretty light and enjoyably campy, he should be a nice fit in showing the (hopefully) light-hearted chemistry between Miller and Fisher on screen.
The Flash opens in theaters on March 16, 2018, followed by Cyborg on April 3, 2020.
