According to Variety, TV’s Fresh Off the Boat mom, Constance Wu, has been tapped to star in the indie drama You and Me Both.
Jennifer Cho Suhr will direct from her own script, in her feature film directorial debut. Suhr has previously helmed and written for television series, such as American Viral and Sandwich Confessionals.
The title is produced by Carolyn Mao (Good Enough) and Mollye Asher (Fort Tilden) with support from Tribeca All Access, NALIP and Film Independent.
The story centers on a young woman (Wu) struggling with addiction who takes a road trip from Iowa to Alaska with her estranged sister in search of their birth mother. The film explores the Asian American experience as well as universal themes of belonging, grief, forgiveness, and family bonds.
Wu is a Taiwanese-American, born and raised in Virginia. She has appeared in several indie films including Stephanie Daley (an award winner at Sundance in 2006), and Sound of My Voice (an award winner at the 2012 Palm Springs International Film Festival). She is currently filming a horror feature, All the Creatures Were Stirring, and also stars on ABC’s comedy Fresh Off the Boat, playing the mother of three in a Taiwanese family in America.
Production on You and Me Both is expected to begin this summer.
