Nicholas Winding Refn’s Horror Film to Start Production in 2015

Writer/director Nicholas Winding Refn‘s next film will be The Neon Demon and it’s set to move into production by early 2015. When discussing his inspiration for the film the Danish auteur said, “One morning I woke and realized I was both surrounded and dominated by women. Strangely, a sudden urge was planted in me to make a horror film about vicious beauty.”

This isn’t the first time Refn has explored women’s effect on men in extreme ways. Both 2011’s Drive and Only God Forgives featured men – played by Ryan Gosling in both instances – driven to act because of the women in their lives. His filmography also proves Refn is no stranger to violence, gore, and overall dark tones, which should make his transition to horror relatively smooth. Refn co-wrote the script for The Neon Demon with Mary Laws and the movie is currently slated for a 2016 release. No news has been released yet on casting, though we do know Drive composer Cliff Martinez will re-team with Refn to provide the film’s score. Refn’s previously announced thriller I Walked With the Dead has been pushed back with this announcement.

Staay tuned for more updates on Refn’s venture into horror as news develops.
