According to Entertainment Weekly, Stephen Spielberg, the man behind the Jurassic Park franchise and the Jurassic World reboots, has officially announced that Colin Trevorrow will return to direct the Jurassic World 3, which is scheduled to bow in 2021. Trevorrow was brought on to helm the first reboot, which was a huge success, earning just over $1.6 billion in the global box office.
The sequel to the 2015 reboot, dubbed Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, will release this year on June 22nd. While Trevorrow stayed on to pen the script, along with his writing partner for the 2015 film Derek Connolly, and as an executive producer, the directing duties for the latest movie were given to J.A. Bayona.
At the moment, Trevorrow is working on the script for Jurassic World 3 with Pacific Rim: Uprising scribe Emily Carmichael. He will again stay on as an executive producer as well, along with Spielberg, the franchise’s creator. Spielberg happily gave this update to fans as he publicly worked promotions for the much-anticipated film Ready Player One.
This will be the first blockbuster film for Treverrow following his departure from helming Star Wars: Episode IX last year. The duties for that project have since been handed out to J.J. Abrams, the director of 2015’s Force Awakens.
