According to Variety, the Emmy-winning comedian of Saturday Night Live, Kate McKinnon, is currently going through negotiations to act in in Danny Boyle’s newest comedy feature. The film is set to follow script from Richard Curtis. Other names attached to the project include Himesh Patel and Lily James.
The project is from Universal in conjunction with Working Title. The project will most likely be filmed fairly soon, as Universal is looking to shoot this summer.
McKinnon has been in high demand since soaring to stardom in SNL. Just recently, trailers for her comedic action-based film The Spy Who Dumped Me with Mila Kunis have aired. Luckily, fans will only have to wait until August to catch the flick. McKinnon was also most successful with her role as Dr. Jillian Holtzmann in the Ghostbusters reboot back in 2016. Additionally, she voice-acted for the animated movie Ferdinand.
Boyle’s name has been in the headlines recently in connection with MGM’s next Bond film, currently dubbed Bond 25. Variety initially relayed news that he was high on their list to direct earlier this year, and in the elapsed time, he has acknowledged that he is working on script with longtime collaborator John Hodge (Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, The Beach).
In any case, production for Bond 25 wouldn’t start until after Boyle has finished shooting his Richard Curtis comedy. McKinnon is highly sought-after for comedies nowadays, which should bode well for Boyle if both sides can work out a deal.
