Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Prepares To Break The Box Office As Zack Snyder Own Epic Feature Gets A Streaming Revival

Christopher Nolan's 'The Odyssey' (2026)

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey is already making waves at the box office, having grossed approximately $40 million in previews worldwide, including $17.6 million domestically and $22.2 million internationally. According to Deadline, “seven-three markets” will be “going this weekend in more than 13,000 foreign locations and 25,100 screens,” excluding China, Japan, Korea, and the CIS. The official international count of IMAX screens totals 440, seven of which are 70MM, and two of those have just opened to screen Nolan’s highly anticipated adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic poem.
In preparation for The Odyssey, some fans have started streaming Zack Snyder’s own ancient epic 300, which stars Gerard Butler, David Wenham, Lena Headey, and Dominic West. This 2006 historical fantasy was based on the 1998 limited comic series of the same title and centered on the retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae, in which King Leonidas (Butler) leads 300 Spartan warriors against the Persian King Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro). The feature, which recently hit #5 on Vudu’s Top 10 Movies in the US, was a box office success and grossed more than $468 million worldwide, which led it to become the 10th highest-grossing film of 2007 as it didn’t hit U.S. theaters until then.
The Odyssey shines with its all-star cast of Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Zendaya as Athena, Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy/Clytemnestra, Samantha Morton as Circe, Charlize Theron as Calypso, and Jon Bernthal as Menelaus. Nolan directed from his own adapted screenplay; his partner and frequent collaborator, Emma Thomas, produced alongside him.
The Odyssey sails into theaters everywhere today.
