Whenever a new Christopher Nolan film comes out, its marketing campaign is always fascinating to watch. The trailers tend to be very vague about plot details and often come out unexpectedly. As is the case for Christopher Nolan’s newest film Tenet, moviegoers should expect its first trailer premiere this very weekend, albeit in limited quantity.
According to early reports from Variety, select IMAX screenings of the upcoming Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw will receive a preview teaser of Tenet. However, these trailer does not reveal much in terms of story and character details. Supposedly, it does feature John David Washington prominently and has the tagline “It’s time for a new protagonist.” Nolan tends to surround his films in mystery when it comes to their marketing, especially with his science fiction films like Interstellar and Inception. The fact that Tenet is also treated with such ambiguity should not be too surprising for Nolan fans.
Some may say that it is an odd choice for Nolan to debut Tenet‘s trailer in a more bombastic film like Hobbs and Shaw, considering how tonally different they are. However, given that Nolan makes his films appear grand by shooting them on IMAX film, it’s fitting that he use existing IMAX releases to inform moviegoers of what they can potentially look forward to with his next project. It is unclear on when the trailer will be available online to the public.
Tenet is set for release on July 17th, 2020.
