Actress Chloë Savigny (The Killing Room) is stepping into the director’s chair with her first short, Kitty.
Sevigny is also the screenwriter, adapting from Paul Bowles’ 1980 animal short story about a little girl named Kitty who is not so sure and how why she got that name, and then finds herself being transformed into a cat. She then appears at the door of her family’s home where “she had no lessons to worry about, she never had to go to the dentist’s, and she no longer had to wonder whether her mother was telling her the truth or not, because she knew the truth.”
Kitty stars newcomer Edie Yvonne along with Ione Sky (TV’s Arrested Development) and veteran actress Lee Meriwether (A Horse for Summer). Christina Piovesan of First Generation Films and Lizzie Nastro (The Wannabe, Bluebird) are producing. Nastro and Sevigny have also teamed on Look Away which is currently in post-production, about a young girl who literally cannot see or hear her mother even though they live under the same roof.
Sevigny won a Golden Globe for HBO’s Big Love and earned an Oscar nomination for her supporting role in Kimberly Peirce’s Boys Don’t Cry, which garnered lead star Hilary Swank the Oscar. Sevigny has most recently been seen on TV in American Horror Story, Bloodline, and Portlandia. She will be starring as Lizzie Borden in the recently announced Untitled Lizzie Borden Project, co-starring Kristen Stewart (Still Alice).
The short is currently filming in Los Angeles.
