Children’s Book ‘Ivy & Bean’ is Being Adapted by Netflix as Live-Action Movie

Netflix is expanding their children’s slate of movies by adapting Ivy & Bean from author Annie Barrows and illustrated by Sophie Blackall to a feature film. Barrows is the author of adult novels The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and The Truth According to Us but has written many children’s books, including Magic in the Mix, Nothing, and the book series Ivy & Bean that came out in 2007. Kathy Waugh, best known for writing Arthur and Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer, will write the film’s script.

The book follows two unexpected friends. The loud and fearless Bean, who lives to play games and stick her nose into other people’s business, and the thoughtful and quiet Ivy, who spends most of her time learning to be a witch. The two soon understand that what it takes to be best of friends is through an adventure. The series consists of 11 illustrated books and Ivy & Bean & Me: A Fill-in-the-Blank Book.

Netflix’s director of family features, Naketha Mattocks, said, “With a 1-hour run-time, the ‘Ivy & Bean’ film series will still very much be movies the whole family can enjoy. Safe, fun, and elevated comedy-adventures, they also have the wonderful benefit of giving the youngest members of the family an opportunity to see themselves as the star of their own story.”

I did attend Long Beach City College for a couple of years, I then transferred to CSULB in 2019. I want to write something outside the normal, something no one would think to write about in a unique way. It also shows how far I am willing to go to produce something amazing that will get more readers interested in the world of Journalism. I am on my way to making a professional life for myself.
