The Walking Dead Trilogy Set to Start Filming Early 2021

Great news for Rick Grime fans! After leaving The Walking Dead in 2018, Andrew Lincoln will be returning as Rick Grimes in the upcoming Walking Dead film. Chief content officer of AMC’s Walking Dead Universe, Scott Gimple announced the first theatrical trilogy that will be airing as an original film on AMC. The film will tell the story of Rick and what has happened to him during the zombie apocalypse.

COVID-19 has set stopped various film productions due to restrictions and guidelines, Lincoln hopes that they can start filming in early 2021 if the COVID-19 vaccine goes as planned, he told The Associated Press. Gimple stated that the plan to make a trilogy will still go on to be released in theaters. Although it is still unknown what will be in the movie, the film will still be focused on Rick Grimes and what has happened in the Walking Dead universe.

In July, executive producer David Alpert stated the film was “coming along” but agree that health should be the first priority. These films will crossover all three shows, The Walking Dead, Walking Dead: World Beyond, and Fear The Walking Dead. Fans can expect questions to be answered such as where Rick went, who took him and for what reason and why did he not come back. The Walking Dead film hopes to be released in 2022 into local theaters, that year will also be the same year The Walking Dead airs its eleventh and last season of the show.
