Check Out the Trailer for Ryan Reynolds’ New Comedy ‘Free Guy’

Ryan Reynolds brings back his iconic charm and wittiness in the first official trailer for the upcoming Shawn Levy-directed comedy Free Guy. This film looks hilarious. Reynolds stars, according to 20th Century Fox as “a bank teller who discovers he is actually a background player in an open-world video game, decides to become the hero of his own story…one he rewrites himself. Now in a world where there are no limits, he is determined to be the guy who saves his world his way…before it is too late.”

In the trailer, we see Reynolds’ character living day to day through different action-packed sequences which he finds boring, as he must hide over and over again while people rob the bank he works at. He then decides to try something new, stopping the robber and accidentally killing him with his own gun. He then takes the robber’s glasses, which show him the video game world in a very They Live manner, and decides to go on an adventure in the hopes that he will be not only a good guy, but “the great guy.”

Reynolds is joined in the trailer by recent Best Actress in a Drama Series Emmy winner Jodie Comer, famous for her role in Killing Eve, Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnorak, Jojo Rabbit) and Stranger Things‘ Joe Keery. Matt Lieberman came up with the story and co-wrote its script with Zak Penn. Reynolds, Levy, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Adam Kolbrenner will be serving as producers.

The film will be released nationwide on July 3, 2020. Check out the hilarious trailer below.
