Check Out the Red-Band Trailer for ‘Sausage Party’

File this one under something completely different and nearly about as high concept as you can get. Sausage Party, Sony’s upcoming super R-rated animated comedy is the brainchild of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (This Is the End, The Interview), has released its first trailer and it’s a fittingly vulgar doozy. Imagine Toy Story with sex jokes.

Sausage Party follows everyday food items on a journey from supermarket shelves to consumption and one sausage’s quest to discover the truth about existence. The voice talent includes Rogen, James Franco (127 Hours), Edward Norton (Birdman), Kristen Wiig (The Martian), Michael Cera (Juno), Salma Hayek (Frida), Danny McBride (Pineapple Express), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Bill Hader (Trainwreck). Greg Tiernan (Thomas & Friends) and Conrad Vernon (Monsters vs. Aliens) direct from a screenplay by Goldberg, Rogen and The Night Before scribes Kyle Hunter and Ariel Shaffir. Megan Ellison’s AnnaPurna Pictures produced the film.

The film recently held a work-in-progress screening at the continuing South By Southwest Film Festival and while the film isn’t completely down, early response has been uniformly positive. Variety‘s Joe Leydon called the film, “A raunchy and witty animated comedy that definitely isn’t kids’ stuff.”

Sony will release the film on August 12th. Check out the red-band trailer below:
