Check Out the ‘Deadpool’ Red Brand Trailer

Following weeks of bating, the first official trailer for Deadpool has finally hit the web. Premiering on Tuesday night’s Conan, here’s our first real look at the eagerly anticipated screen adaptation of the unconventional Marvel Comics anti-hero in his R-rated, meta-infused, ultra-violent glory. Ryan Reynolds (Mississippi Grind) stars as the titular, red-suited vigilante (whose alter ego is Wade Wilson). The film was directed by first-timer Tim Miller and set to released on February 12, 2016.

The film received a standing ovation at Comic-Con and it’s easy to understand why with the abundance of self-referential humor on display in the trailer. “Just make sure you do right by me, so I can do right by somebody else,” Wilson exclaims at one point. “And just don’t make my suit green — or animated!” Rather infamously, Reynolds himself starred in the critically lambasted 2011 DC Comics adaptation The Green Lantern. Reynolds appeared in an earlier incarnation of Wade Wilson in the 2009 prequel Wolverine: X-Men Origins; the film was was fairly unpopular among critics and fans.

The film centers around Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wilson who decides, in a seemingly tongue-in-cheek manner, to enlist in a rogue experiment in order to cure his cancer of the liver, lungs, prostate and brain. The experiment leaves him with special abilities and having him adopt the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with new powers and dark and twisted sense of humor, Deadpool being a hunt to track down the man who destroyed his life. Morena Baccarin (Spy), T.J. Miller (Silicon Valley) and Gina Carano (Haywire) co-star.

Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
