Cate Blanchett Set to Play Lucille Ball in Aaron Sorkin-Penned Bio

Cate Blanchett has been linked to an upcoming authorized Lucille Ball biopic set to be written by acclaimed Oscar winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network, the upcoming Steve Jobs).

The film will focus on the 20-year marriage between Ball and I Love Lucy co-star/husband Desi Arnaz. The couple had two children before their divorce in 1960. Ball’s offspring Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr. will serve as producers for the film being developed through Escape Artists, a Sony-based company.

Two-time Academy Award winner Blanchett (Blue Jasmine) has a busy slate in the next months. Her upcoming performance in the same-sex romance, Carol, has been drawing rave reviews and Oscar buzz. She recently completed work on Truth and Manifesto, both due out later this year, as well as wrapping an upcoming untitled Terrence Malick project. Most recently, Blanchett was seen in the live-action adaptation of Cinderella. Blanchett has also already proven a natural mimic, winning one of her two Oscars for her interpretation of acting great Katherine Hepburn in Martin Scorsese’s 2004 epic The Aviator. The actress was also Oscar nominated for her unique take on Bob Dylan in Todd Haynes’ 2007 experimental biography I’m Not There.

Aaron Sorkin, who is no stranger to biopics, penned the scripts for The Social Network, for which he won an Oscar. He most recently wrote the Steve Jobs biopic starring Michael Fassbenber as the leader of the tech giant.  The project currently does not have a director attached to it or a start date.
