Cast for ‘Mouse Guard’ Heats Up with Andy Serkis and Thomas Brodie-Sangster

Fox’s adaptation of the acclaimed indie graphic novel, Mouse Guard, officially has its leads. THR reports Thomas Brodie-Sangster will be joined by the motion capture legend, Andy Serkis, in the fantasy adaptation. Mouse Guard will be directed by Wes Ball (The Maze Runner).

Based on David Petersen’s acclaimed graphic novels, Mouse Guard tells the story of a medieval order of mice warriors sworn to protect their realm from the treacheries of foxes, eagles, and other rodents. However, the Guard is faced with its greatest challenge when Midnight (Serkis), the Guard’s blacksmith, turns against it. Lieam (Brodie-Sangster), one of the Guard’s youngest members, is called upon to prove his bravery and save the guard from Midnight’s treachery. The film’s source material is often compared with those of fantasy masters, T. H. White, J. R. R. Tolkien, George R. R. Martin, and Patrick Rothfuss.

Mouse Guard will be shot with motion capture technology and will have WETA providing visual effects. Serkis’ astonishing motion capture career makes him a perfect candidate to help Mouse Guard become a fantasy epic. Since his work as Gollum in the beloved Lord of the Rings trilogy, Serkis has maintained credibility with critics and fans alike. The actor is coming off of his first directorial project, Mowgli, which was released to Netflix in December of last year.

Mouse Guard is anticipated to begin production this May.
