Carey Mulligan Passes on Role of Hillary Clinton

The upcoming movie Rodham, a biopic about the life and political career of Hillary Clinton, has yet to find its namesake in the title role. With serious rumors that Hillary is the main contender for the Democratic nomination as Commander In Chief for 2016, the movie would be poised to not only be timely, but big box-office as well.

As we previously reported, director James Ponsoldt was in talks with The Great Gatsby darling Carey Mulligan to star, but the actress has announced that she plans to pass on the role of the iconic political powerhouse.

Many A-List actress names have been floating through the cinematic ether in regards to the project including Scarlett Johansson and Reese Witherspoon. Jessica Chastain was also originally pegged for the role as well, but took a step back from the part earlier this month saying, “No, that’s actually not true. I found out about the project online, but, yeah, there’s a lot of stuff out there.” (-Huffington Post)

The film is set to take place during the Watergate scandal when Hillary was a young lawyer, and how she has to choose between her political ambition and the man she falls in love with. Speaking of which, no word yet on who is set to play Bill, but much like other biopics that center around infamous couples (Sid and Nancy, Bonnie and Clyde, etc.) both casting decisions will clearly make or break the future of this film.
