‘Caine’ Expands The John Wick Universe With Bill Nighy Joining Donnie Yen’s Vision

The world of Caine continues to grow as acclaimed British actor Bill Nighy joins the upcoming John Wick spin-off, adding another veteran performer to one of modern action cinema’s most stylized franchises. The casting marks the latest evolution of the expanding assassin universe, as Lionsgate looks beyond the story of John Wick and explores the lives of the characters who once stood beside him. 

The film follows Caine, the blind assassin introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4, whose tragic sense of honor and deadly precision made him one of the franchise’s most memorable characters. Set after the events of the fourth film, Caine explores the assassin’s attempt to live beyond his obligations to the High Table, while his past continues to cast a shadow over his future. 

The project is also a major creative milestone for Donnie Yen, who not only returns to star as Caine but also steps behind the camera as director. Yen has described his goal as creating a martial arts action film that honors the spirit of John Wick while introducing a deeper emotional journey and a distinct cinematic language influenced by classic Hong Kong action cinema.  

Alongside Yen and Nighy, the film features the return of Rina Sawayama as Akira, whose unresolved conflict with Caine was left hanging at the conclusion of John Wick: Chapter 4.
