A newly formed film distribution company has announced that its debut film will be Michael Moore’s (Sicko) latest documentary Where to Invade Next.
The company, which has yet to be named, will be led by former RADiUS founders and presidents Tom Quinn and Jason Janego, as well as Alamo Drafthouse Films Founder Tim League. In a press release the trio said that they are “thrilled with [their] new label and can’t think of a better film or filmmaker to launch with.”
Given Quinn, Janego and League’s experience, it looks like their studio will specialize in releasing documentaries and independent films. When going up against the lure of franchise films, neither genres have been significantly popular with major studios as of late, even if they are from the likes of Moore.
Where to Invade Next premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival where it was met with generally wide acclaim. The film follows Moore as he visits a number of countries to find out what the United States could gain from invading them. Satire or not, the film’s subject matter will likely generate a lot of buzz and discussion when running parallel to the current Presidential primaries and election.
Moore’s film will show next at the New York Film Festival followed by the Hamptons International Film Festival. No wide release date has been announced.
