Ben Foster (Lone Survivor) is in talks to join the third adaptation in Dan Brown’s Robert Langdon series of novels, Inferno, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film already has an impressive cast that includes Tom Hanks (Saving Private Ryan), Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Irrfan Khan (The Life of Pi), Omar Sy (X-Men: Days of Future Past), and Sidse Babett Knudsen (After the Wedding).
Inferno follows Langdon (Hanks) as he wakes up with amnesia in an Italian hospital and uses the help of Dr. Sienna Brooks (Jones) to recover his memories and stop a plot to release a global plague in the vein of Dante’s Inferno. Foster will play the scientist who plans to release the virus in order to solve the world’s overpopulation problem.
Foster has built quite the career as a scene-stealing character actor with roles in 3:10 to Yuma, The Messenger, and Lone Survivor. He recently wrapped production on Warcraft, where he played the old sorcerer Medivh, and is playing the lead role in the Lance Armstrong biopic Icon. He also will be in the upcoming rescue movie The Finest Hours.
Inferno is expected to start filming in Europe next month.
