Even though Warner Bros. was hoping for more from Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the studio is still pushing full-speed ahead with their DC Cinematic Universe. But over the past the week there have been rumors floating around about problems beginning to brew about some of the standalone films coming in the next few years. They just lost writer-director Seth Grahame-Smith for 2017’s The Flash, and there are other reports that James Wan, set to helm 2018’s Aquaman, may be questioning if he will stay on the project. Luckily, there is one upcoming film in their comic book universe that seems to be staying steady, both with the studio and fans.
Everyone is aware Dawn of Justice did not do all that well, but one aspect that received almost universal praise was Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne. During CinemaCon this year, the studio announced there was a standalone Batman film in the works, and recently Affleck was confirmed to direct and co-write it. Renowned comic book writer Geoff Johns is the other hand on the script, although not much else has been said about the project. It was unclear who else would be in the film, heroes and villains alike. But apparently, according to Birth.Death.Movies, the same source that released the rumors about Wan’s possible departure, stated that Affleck’s film may feature a plethora of iconic DC villains.
It’s going to be crammed with Bat villains, which means that just about every major bad guy you’ve ever wanted to see in a movie will be in this movie.
There wasn’t much doubt that the standalone would include some popular villains from the DC world, but it’s exciting to hear audiences may be getting even more than expected. Affleck has had continuous success when he directs films, with the most recent being the award-winning Argo. Warner Bros. has not officially announced the release date for the film as of yet, but they did add in two more DC films, slated for October 5, 2018, and November 1, 2019, so it could easily fit into one of those slots.
We will keep you updated about the Untitled Batman film as more information becomes available.
