With filming currently underway in Georgia, the ensemble cast of the upcoming reboot Spider-Man: Homecoming just keeps continuing to grow and grow, pretty much by the day. The latest addition to the cast is young actor Abraham Attah, the 15-year-old Ghana native who made an impressive debut last year in Cary Fukunaga’s acclaimed gritty indie drama Beasts of No Nation. Tom Holland, who memorably debuted his Peter Parker in the current smash Captain America: Civil War headlines the latest incarnation of the webslinging superhero with Jon Watts (Cop Car) behind the camera. Sony and Marvel are working together here to help erase the fan displeasure of the second iteration of the franchise, which featured Andrew Garfield in the Spidey suit.
Casting for Spider-Man: Homecoming has seen considerable growth in the last year weeks and offered a fair share of surprises. Recently, comedy vets Hannibal Buress, Donald Glover and Martin Starr joined the cast alongside Oscar winner Marisa Tomei (as Aunt May), Robert Downey Jr. (as Iron Man) and Oscar nominee Michael Keaton (presumably as the villainous Vulture); Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) is also pegged to portray villain, yet who specifically is being kept under lock and key. Homecoming appears to be skewering on the younger side to reflect the youthful (and 20-year-old) Holland. Rising actors Zendaya, Michael Barbieri, Kenneth Choi, Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier are also apart of the cast.
Attah’s character name or details haven’t been made public yet though this certainly marks an impressive resume-expander for the teenage actor. Appearing opposite a commanding Idris Elba in Beasts earned the actor raves as well a surprise Independent Spirit Award win and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor at last year’s Venice Film Festival. He also earned a Screen Actors Guild nomination for being a part of Beasts‘ ensemble and a Critics Choice Award nomination.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is expected to leap into theaters on July 7, 2017.
