Barbie has obviously become a worldwide sensation, and it has the box office numbers to match. The film has earned nearly $775 million globally, which has earned it spot in the top 20 highest-grossing movies released by Warner Bros. in history, and has also put it ahead of The Batman to be the highest-grossing film from the studio this decade.
The only movies ahead of Barbie on the top 20 list are from the franchises of Harry Potter, The Hobbit, and movies from the DCEU (including Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy); the only stand-alone film above it on the list is Nolan’s Inception, which Barbie is set to surpass soon.
Barbie is also set to surpass the billion dollar mark soon, which will be a huge success for Warner Bros. after The Flash bombed at the box office. Sources say that Warner Bros. and Mattel are highly considering sequels due to the film’s success.
Once Barbie surpasses the $1 billion mark, it will land itself within the top 5 of highest-grossing Warner Bros. movies. If it manages to surpass $1.35 billion, it will beat out Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 to become the studio’s highest-grossing movie of all time.
Barbie and Oppenheimer both had historically low drops during their second weekends in theaters, with both having under a 50% drop from their opening weekends. Both films have already become major money makers for their respective studios, and there is only more money on the way in.
