The pursuit for the highest-grossing film of all time continues. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced to multiple news outlets that Avengers: Endgame will experience another run in theaters with new footage excluded from the original three hour cut. Feige affirmed that the rerelease will not be an “extended cut” but rather a “marketing push” for the studio featuring “a deleted scene, a little tribute and a few surprises.”
Feige also mentioned that the rerelease will premier June 28th but did not clarify its length or the quantity of theaters it would show.
Endgame has obliterated the box office in its $1.2 billion worldwide run with a rare opening that peaked nearly $600 million ahead of its predecessor Avengers: Infinity War. It is currently the record-holder for biggest opener in North America earning $350 million and surpassing previous placeholder Infinity War at $257.6 million. It is currently the second highest grossing film of all time behind James Cameron’s Avatar. If successful, the rerelease could potentially unseat Cameron’s Academy Award-winning opus for the title. Disney did not respond to request for comment or further specifics to the rerelease.
