‘Avenger’s: Endgame’ Breaks Records in China Box Office

Avenger: Endgame’s debut in China made $107.2 million, making the film’s premiere break the country’s single-day record. The title was previously held by local release titled Monster Hunt 2, which earned $85 million, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Chinese movie ticketing company Maoyan estimates that the film will make $521 million over its full run in China. The high projections surrounding the film have also been supported by the positive reviews it has been receiving. Maoyan has featured the film’s score at 9.3/10, and a similar score at 9.2/10 is also shown on Douban, a Chinese social networking service. Ninety-nine percent of ticket sales in China on Wednesday were for Avenger’s: Endgame.

The movie’s performance in China may be indicative of how it will fare when it premieres in the U.S. two days later. Deadline reports that it is possible that the superhero film could make $260 to $270 million in the U.S. and Canada and global earnings of around $940 to $950 million. The film’s screening will dominate 4,600 theaters across the U.S. and begin showings at 6pm on Thursday, according to Disney.

The ticket sale craze appeared to confirm that the film was on the path for a strong opening. Presales in U.S. and Canada brought in more than $120 million. In India, 18 tickets were sold per second ahead of the film’s opening.
