After dominating the box office in 2019 as the highest-grossing movie of all time at its release, Avengers: Endgame has once again become the number one movie at the domestic box office with its theatrical re-release, Avengers: Endgame Encore. On Friday, Avengers: Endgame Encore debuted at number one at the domestic box office, making $11.2 million. By Sunday, the re-release is estimated to have made around $26 million.
Primetime, the fictionalized retelling of the later production of To Catch a Predator starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen and directed by documentary filmmaker Lance Oppenheim in his feature debut, also debuted this weekend and landed at number two at the domestic box office. The film made $8.49 million and is estimated to end the weekend at $20.5 million.
At number three was the Brad Pitt survival thriller The Heart of the Beast. Directed by David Ayer, the film centers on Pitt as a retired veteran who must survive the elements with his former combat scout dog after crashing his plane in the middle of Alaska. It debuted Friday with a domestic total of $7.45 million and will end the weekend with about $20 million.
At number four was Resident Evil. In its second weekend, the Zach Cregger-directed horror video game adaptation made $6.9 million, and will make $23.5 million by this weekend’s end. That second-weekend total will put the film’s domestic box office at $61 million.
One film that didn’t have much luck this weekend was DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island. The original animated film debuted Friday at number 5 at the domestic box office, making $4.38 million, and will end the weekend with an estimated domestic total of $11.5 million.
All five of these films are currently playing in theaters.
