Ann-Margret – singer, two-time Oscar nominee, and 1960s sex symbol of movie musical fame (Bye Bye Birdie, Viva Las Vegas, Tommy) – has joined the cast of Going In Style, as reported by TheWrap. She joins fellow veteran actors Michael Caine (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Interstellar), Morgan Freeman (Lucy, Olympus Has Fallen), and Alan Arkin (The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, Argo).
Ann-Margret will play Arkin’s love interest in the film. The New Line Cinema project, being directed by Zach Braff (Wish I Was Here) and produced by Donald De Line (The Italian Job), is remake of Martin Brest’s 1979 comedy-drama, which starred George Burns, Art Carney, and Lee Strasberg. Writer Ted Melfi, a longtime commercial director, made his theatrical film debut last year as writer-director of St. Vincent, which had its world premiere at the 2014 Toronto Film Festival and went on to garner Golden Globe Award nominations for Best Motion Picture and Best Actor (Bill Murray).
Going In Style revolves around a male trio of senior citizens who lose their pensions when the company they worked for their whole lives is sold to a foreign corporation. The retirees organize a plan to rob the bank that absconded with their money. The film also stars Matt Dillon (Bad Country) as the FBI agent who chases the elderly bank robbers, and Joey King (The Sound and The Fury, Wish I Was Here) as Caine’s granddaughter.
Production will soon be underway in New York City, with the movie scheduled for release some time in 2016.
