Tom Hardy will soon be cementing his status as an action star – if he hasn’t done so already – when he stars in 100 Bullets for New Line. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal is part of the recent transition of Vertigo Comics properties – subsidiary of DC Comics – from Warner Bros. to their corporate partners at New Line. This will be the production company’s first adaptation officially in development since the acquisition.
Vertigo is known for producing edgier content than its parent publication over at DC, due to its creator-based focus. The 100 Bullets comic, which ran from 1999 to 2009, centered on a man named Agent Graves who presented people with the ultimate revenge fantasy-turned-reality by providing a gun, 100 untraceable bullets, the name of the person who wronged them, and a guarantee of little to no repercussions.
In addition to New Line and DC Entertainment, Hardy will be producing alongside partner Dean Baker as a part of their Hardy Son & Baker production banner. There is already a script for the film written by Chris Borrelli (The Vatican Tapes).
The project had been in development a couple times prior to this, once as a television series adapted by David Goyer (Batman Begins), and another time as film produced by Akiva Goldsman‘s (I Am Legend, Constantine) Weed Road. Now, to be in production with a well known distributor like New Line as well as an actor like Hardy who is currently dominating the action circuit, 100 Bullets seems to have landed in exceptionally capable hands.
After starring as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and in this summer’s blockbuster Mad Max: Fury Road, Hardy is well on his way to becoming household name. He will next be playing twin gangsters in Legend and will be appearing alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in another revenge plot for Alejandro González Iñárritu‘s The Revenant.
