Andy Serkis Confirmed to Direct ‘Venom’ Sequel Starring Tom Hardy

Andy Serkis is attached to direct the Venom sequel after being considered against directors such as Travis Knight and Rupert Wyatt, who directed Bumblebee and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, respectively. This won’t be Serkis’ first time involved in any Marvel movie because he starred as Ulysses Klaue in both Avengers: Age of Ultron and Black Panther. Andy Serkis is also well known for his voice work as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Caesar in The Planet of the Apes reboot.

The first Venom film was a box office success when it was released by Sony on October 5, 2018, earning a whopping $856.1M against a budget of an estimated $100M. It stars Tom Hardy as the title character along with Michelle Williams, Riz Ahmed, Scott Haze, Reid Scott, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson. It has not yet been announced if these other actors will reprise their roles in the sequel.

The sequel, according to Variety, is supposed by many fans to be released the same date as the original film in 2020, due to recent announcement by Sony signaling that an unnamed Marvel sequel would be released then. If this theory is true, filming for Venom 2 could start as early as this fall.
