The long-awaited Hindi remake of Warner Bros. According to the latest casting news from Bollywood, The Intern will star Amitabh Bachchan (Gulabo Sitabo) opposite Deepika Padukone (Chhapaak). Bachchan takes over the role once to be played by the late Rishi Kapoor with Padukone but unfortunately died in 2020. Bachchan and Padukone will take on Anne Hathaway and Robert De Niro’s roles in the original.
Nancy Meyers directed the 2015 movie that grossed $194 million worldwide. The remake will be directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma (Badhaai Ho). Akshat Ghildial (Badhaai Ho) and Mitesh Shah (Tumbbad) adapted the screenplay. The original film starred Hathaway as the workaholic CEO of an online apparel website who forms an unexpected relationship with a 70-year-old widower who becomes the company’s newest intern.
There is an ongoing collaboration between Warner Bros and another Kheterpal entity, Azure Entertainment, to find, create, manufacture, and distribute Warner titles to Indian audiences with The Intern a part of the agreement. Another upcoming project under the agreement is an Indian Adaptation of Hong Kong’s Infernal Affairs film trilogy that also happens to be the basis of Warner’s 2006 film The Departed that Martin Scorsese directed starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon.
The remake will begin filming in November 2021 and will be released in the summer of 2022. Warner Bros. India and Athena are behind the making of the project.
