With Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice only two months away, Warner Bros. is reportedly shaping of the cast for the other films in the DC universe. According to Variety, Amber Heard (The Danish Girl) is in talks to join Aquaman as Mera, the hero’s love interest.
Similar to Aquaman, Mera is a descendant of the ocean. More specifically, she starts as the Queen of Xebel and eventually marries Aquaman to become the Queen of Atlantis. It’s expected that the film will take place before the couple is married. Jason Momoa (Conan: The Barbarian) is set to play Aquaman with James Wan (Furious 7) directing the film.
Along with joining the stand-alone Aquaman film set to release in 2018, the casting would also mean that Heard will likely appear in the Justice League: Part 1, set for a 2017 release. While Momoa is set to appear as the king of the sea in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Heard will not appear in the film.
Surprisingly, Heard has stayed clear of comic book films until this, but has stayed active this past year. Most recently, she appeared in The Danish Girl and Magic Mike XXL. She will be seen next in the period-piece mystery London Fields.
We’ll have more on Aquaman and The Justice League: Part 1 as they develop.
