L. Scott Caldwell, a Tony Award winner known for her roles in The Fugitive and in Lost as Rose, has been cast by Amazon and Blumhouse to star in their new thriller, Bingo. She stars as the “witty loyal and tough grandmother” at the center of the film, Variety announced.
The film centers around a group of stubborn elderly friends who refuse to be gentrified. Lupita, the leader of the group, keeps them together as a community, but little do they know that their beloved Bingo hall is about to be sold to a force even more powerful than money itself.
Caldwell, who won the best performance by an actress in a featured role in a play Tony Award in 1988 for her performance in Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, joins Adriana Barraza, who plays Delores’ friend Lupita, and Joshua Caleb Johnson, who will star as Delores’ grandson Caleb. The film also stars Richard Blake, Clayton Landey, Jonathan Medina, Bertila Damas, Grover Coulson, Kelly Murtagh and David Jensen.
Gigi Saul Guerrero is directing the film with a script she co-wrote with Shane McKenzia and Perry Blackshear. Bingo is being executive produced by Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Marci Wiseman, Raynor Shima, Lisa Bruce and Lauren Downey.
Bingo is one of the upcoming films from Amazon’s “Welcome to the Blumhouse” slate, which is a collection of horror-thrillers that highlight female and emerging filmmakers behind the scenes while also showcasing diversity on screen with both new and established actors performing in “unexpected” role.
