J.K. Rowling‘s Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is beginning to round out its cast after the drawn-out process of casting its star, Eddie Redmayne (Theory of Everything) as the mystical adventurer Newt Scamander. New additions to the cast include Alison Sudol (TV’s Transparent) and Dan Fogler (Kung Fu Panda) according to Variety and Deadline, respectively.
Harry Potter director David Yates has jumped on board once again to work with J.K. Rowling, who wrote the script based on a textbook Harry Potter encounters at Hogwarts. The fictional book is written by “magiczoologist” Scamander based on his travels and explorations while searching for magical beasts in another area of the wizarding Potter-world.
Sudol has signed on to play Queenie, the younger sister of Tina—to be played by Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice)—who runs into Newt when his journey takes him through New York City. Fogler will be portraying Jacob, another Manhattanite, a non-magical person whom Newt befriends in the city. The two will also be joining Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) who is playing Kredan, an American wizard Newt encounters.
Sudol, most notably a band member in A Fine Frenzy, has been gradually building up her acting credentials as of late. She has appeared in the Golden Globe-winning television show Transparent as well as the TV series Dig. She has a small role in an upcoming film, Other People’s Children, but Fantastic Beasts will essentially be her feature big-screen debut.
Fogler has also appeared in several television series as of late, including stints on The Goldbergs and The Good Wife, and as a regular on the freshman series Secrets & Lies. This year he will be appearing in the comedy Sex Guaranteed with Grey Damon (TV’s Aquarius) and Custody with Viola Davis (TV’s How to Get Away With Murder).
