Following the acquisition of author Karl Ove Knausgaard’s biographical editorial piece, My Saga, Bona Fide Productions’ Albert Berger and Ron Yerxa have nabbed director Alexander Payne (Sideways) to take on this project.
Originally sprouting from New York Times Magazine last year, My Saga is a two-part recounting of Knausgaard’s journey to trace the Vikings’ trek throughout the Northern United States. It’s intense, it’s hilarious, and it keeps you very interested. One would think that Knausgaard’s global bestselling six-volume autobiographical novel series My Struggle would have landed a feature film treatment by now, but we’re happy we get to see at least one of his tales told through this medium.
Payne, no stranger to combining emotion and comedy in a road trip fashion, should be a great fit for this project. Berger and Yerxa produced the director’s previous films Election and Nebraska, and now are on their way to developing a screenplay. Payne’s last film was Nebraska, which earned Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Director. He is currently prepping the comedy Downsizing set to star Oscar winners Matt Damon (The Martian) and Reese Witherspoon (Wild).
