Adam Sandler Threatens to Make Intentionally Terrible Movie if ‘Uncut Gems’ Doesn’t Get Oscar Nomination

Many are talking about Adam Sandler as of late, though not for typical negative reasons. In fact, the famous comedian has been getting a ton of critical acclaim for his performance in the new film Uncut Gems. Though, despite being one of the best films Sandler has had in years, that may not stop him from making more Happy Madison type productions. In a recent interview with Howard Stern, Sandler threatened to create a film that is intentionally terrible if he does not get any Oscar recognition for Uncut Gems. He must have forgotten Jack and Jill still exists.

During the interview, the topic was brought up regarding Sandler losing the Gotham Award for Best Actor to Adam Driver in Marriage Story. Stern encouraged Sandler to campaign more for an Oscar nomination, but Sandler said that he has done a ton of promotion already. He did comment, however, that it would funny if he scored his first Oscar nomination and mentioned that he’d be there to win the award. Sandler even mentioned what he would do if he wasn’t nominated, stating “If I don’t get it, I’m going to f—ing come back and do one again that is so bad on purpose just to make you all pay.”

There might be some exaggeration here, considering how more profitable Sander’s comedic affairs are compared to his dramatic roles. This is especially apparent when he continues making films like Grown Ups and Jack and Jill shortly after Funny People, a movie that mocked the kind of films Sandler normally does, underperformed at the box office. Though it’s possible that Sandler could get a Best Actor nomination so there’s still some hope. It might be a long shot, considering his competition includes Joaquin Phoenix and the aforementioned Adam Driver. Though if Sandler could get some recognition for his work in Uncut Gems, hopefully we won’t have to worry about him making Grown Ups 3.

Uncut Gems is set for release December 13th 2019.

Ryan Pineda: When it comes to film, animation, video games and other mediums, I can discuss for hours about how much on why certain films and animated media made me the person I am today. I adore the artistic merit that comes from a lot of pop-culture media and will definitely love to have a conversation about favorite movies any day! I have graduated in 2017 with a BA in Film and Television at the University of Arizona. Been passionate about writing about films due to always having an interesting outlook on the medium. Will always see a film and will definitely be sure to recommend it to someone that I know for a fact would love that movie. Not only that but will also give reasons for why I think that film did or did not work as a movie, and the same can go for other pieces of media like television, video games and especially animated projects.
