Disney Releases New Trailer for Live-Action ‘Mulan’

The release date for Disney’s live action Mulan adaptation is getting closer and, in order to drum up some more hype, Disney has released a new trailer showing off some of the movie’s martial arts and action scenes. Unfortunately for fans of the original animated movie, there’s no singing “I’ll Make a Man out of You,” but some orchestral versions of that song can be heard in the trailer.

The trailer also reveals its new villains. Where the original animated Mulan antagonist was Hun chieftain Shan Yu, this movie replaces him with two new characters: Bori Khan- a new Hun leader, and Xian Lang. Jason Scott Lee, who played Mowgli in the 1994 live action The Jungle Book will be playing Bori Khan, while actress Gong Li will be portraying Xian Lang, who Polygon describes as a powerful witch with the ability to transform herself into a bird.

The movie’s other cast members include Donnie Yen as Mulan’s mentor figure Commander Tung, Tzi Ma as Mulan’s father, and Jet Li as the Emperor. Mulan herself is being played by actress Liu Yifei and her love interest, renamed Chen Honghui instead of Li Shang, is being played by Yoson An. Unfortunately Mushu the dragon will officially not be included in this adaptation.
