Makoto Shinkai’s acclaimed Japanese anime Your Name is heading stateside. Funimation Films has announced that the animated movie – one of the films in Oscar contention for the Best Animated Feature prize this year – has set a release date for the feature this spring. The movie is already a blockbuster at home in Japan, where it currently ranks as the fourth highest grossing title of all time behind Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning classic Spirited Away, Titanic and Frozen.
Your Name is a dramatic fantasy that centers around two teenagers, Mitsuha and Taki, who swap bodies. Inexplicably linked, they nonetheless form a bond with one another despite never having laid eyes on another previously. With this bond, they try to use their bizarre and mysterious powers to help prevent a catastrophe. The film has already earned considerable acclaim from critics as it recently took Best Animated Feature honors from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association.
Your Name, which earlier had a 2016 qualifying run in order to qualify for this year’s Oscars, is set to open in theaters on April 7th. Funimation is releasing both the original Japanese version with English subtitles as well as an English-dubbed version of the film. Check out the trailer below.
