Aaron Sorkin will be delivering punch next year as Deadline confirmed that the director will be filming his next drama The Trial of the Chicago 7 which is eyed for a widescreen release on October 2, 2020.
One of the biggest aspects of Sorkin’s announcement regarding the film is the signing of Michael Keaton who will join heavyweight cast consisting of William Hurt, J.C. MacKenzie, Frank Langella, Kevlin Harrison Jr., Eddie Redmayne, Jeremy Strong, Mark Rylance, Alex Sharp, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Sacha Baron Cohen.
The film will be centered on the historical 1969 trial of seven accused brought up on charges by the federal government on multiple counts of conspiracy and others. The trial sparked a national protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention held in Chicago and polarized the U.S. The countercultural trial even entertained the conversation of undermining the U.S. government. Keaton will reportedly play the role of Ramsey Clark across from Hurt’s John Mitchell.
The film, distributed by Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks Pictures, and Cross Creek, will receive a limited release on September 25, 2020 and has officially entered production New Jersey and Chicago.
