Alvin and the Chipmunks is ready for a new installment, with the last film installment, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip, now being over a decade old. Big Shot Pictures has closed a deal with Bagdasarian Productions, the owner of Alvin and the Chipmunks, to develop new feature films. Big Shot Pictures now has a 25% stake in the property, which gives them the ability to make films. They are currently planning on a new film to be released in 2028.
Big Shot’s official Instagram account broke the news, showing off a fresh new look for Alvin. The caption read, “Big Shot Pictures has landed a landmark joint venture deal with the one and only Alvin and the Chipmunks. The Chipmunks are back.”
Alvin and the Chipmunks were created in 1958, appearing in comics and TV shows, but their real propellor into stardom came in 2007 with the feature film Alvin and the Chipmunks. The live action – animation hybrid was wildly successful and spawned 3 sequels: The Squekquel, Chipwrecked and The Road Chip. It is unknown if this new film will be animated or live action. It is currently set for a 2028, but it has yet to find a distributer.
