Variety just announced that the third installment in the Bad Boys series, Bad Boys for Life, has just cast Vanessa Hudgens, Alexander Ludwig and Charles Melton. Variety states that the original stars, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, have been doing chemistry tests with any actors who wanted to be involved in the film and Hudgens, Ludwig and Melton were the cream of the crop. It is also reported that Joe Pantoliano will return as Captain Howard, while the production still searches for a villain.
Vanessa Hudgens is most famous for her role in the High School Musical series but she has most recently starred in the live adaptation for Grease, Dog Days, Powerless, The Princess Switch, and Second Act. Alexander Ludwig had his breakout hit when he played Cato in The Hunger Games and went on to star in Lone Survivor, When the Game Stands Tall and Vikings. Charles Melton is best known for his role in Riverdale, but he also starred in Glee and American Horror Story.
Variety also revealed that the film will be helmed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, who have co-directed with each other for seven years. They have directed Black, Gangsta, and Image. The writers for the film are Chris Bremner, Joe Carnahan and Anthony Tambakis. The movie will mark the first writer credit for Chris Bremner but not for Joe Carnahan who wrote and directed The A-Team, Smokin’ Aces, along with episodes of The Blacklist and State Of Affairs. The screenplay was penned by Anthony Tambakis, who wrote the screenplays for Jane Got a Gun, Warrior and Gringo.
The film is set to release January 17, 2020, and a ton of information is still to come for fans to anticipate. Apparently the new actors will play a new specialized unit that clashes with the old school ways of the original Bad Boys as a new threat emerges in Miami. Hopefully the film will turn out to be a high- adrenaline, action-packed blockbuster like its predecessors before it.
