Just in time for Halloween weekend (it’s a thing), Detectives Mike Laaaaawwwwrrry (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) took to social media to confirm that Bad Boys III (a.k.a. Bad Boys For Life) has officially risen from the dead. Word on the long-coming sequel has been scarce since director Joe Carnahan departed the project last year, and it seemed like a long shot to bet on a follow-up to 2003’s Bad Boys II ever getting off the ground. But as you can see with your eyes, and hear with your ears (unless you find yourself in a sensory deprivation film), Smith and Lawrence posted the below video on Facebook to announce the good news.
It's official. BAD BOYS FOR LIFE, coming to theaters January 17, 2020.

It’s official! Bad Boys III is happening, and you can’t handle anymore than that, so we won’t go on to tell you that this stands to be Lawrence’s first appearance on the big screen since 2011’s Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son, which you may be shocked to learn did not win over film critics when it debuted in theaters. Some believed that he had retired from acting altogether since 2014’s Partners TV sitcom (also featuring Kelsey Grammer) failed to set the world on fire, and he hadn’t appeared onscreen since. But now he’s back, returning to arguably his most iconic role as the hilariously perturbed Marcus Burnett.
Word from Screenrant is that the plot for Bad Boys III begins with Marcus having left the Miami PD and working as a private investigator, while Mike remains an active detective. An Albanian mercenary (whose brother was killed and likely turned into a clever quip by the Bad Boys) will bring the duo together again when he places a bounty on their heads. The threequel is set to be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
I know Mr. Smith said you can’t handle anymore news, but I can’t resist dropping one more nugget of joy into your laps. Sony has indicated that not only is Bad Boys For Life set to begin production as soon as early 2019, but Bad Boys 4 is also in the cards for a future release. Why they didn’t wait for part 4 to use the title Bad Boys 4 Life is beyond me, but assuming that audience members who weren’t even born in 1995 (when the original film released) are enthusiastic for more Bad Boys, we can expect at least two more sequels to the powerhouse cop-buddy series.
If all goes as planned, Bad Boys For Life will arrive in theaters on January 17, 2020, and as casting ramps up we’ll be here to provide all the updates you can’t handle. Bad boys, bad boys, what else are we gonna do.
