Based on the novel by Jojo Moyes, Me Before You tells the story of Louisa Clark, a woman looking for new purpose after stumbling around from one odd job to another. She finds this when she becomes a caregiver for William Traynor, a man recently paralyzed. The two find a whole lot to bicker about in the beginning before they eventually fall for one another, causing Will to rethink his entire outlook on life and love, including his plan to pull his own plug in six months time.
The romance stars Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke and Sam Claflin (The Hunger Games series) as Louisa and Will, respectively. Boasting of an all female creative team, the screenplay was adapted by the author herself and was directed by Thea Sharrock as her first feature film. Me Before You also stars Downton Abbey‘s Brendan Coyle, as well as Jenna Coleman (TV’s Doctor Who), Matthew Lewis (the Harry Potter franchise), and Charles Dance (The Imitation Game).
Mostly dominating the action and fantasy genre up to this point, this will be Clarke’s first romantic film. Claflin has also largely remained within the action category, however, last year saw him as the romantic lead opposite Lily Collins in another adaptation, Love, Rosie.
The trailer gives viewers a lot to gush over, especially with lines like “you are pretty much the only thing that makes me want to get up in the morning” and an immediate heart-wrenching chemistry between Claflin and Clarke.
Me Before You opens in theaters on June 3rd. Check out the official trailer below.
