As we move further away from last year’s Spectre, the future of where James Bond star Daniel Craig stands with the franchise continues to weaken. Many actors, both male and female, have been thrown into the discussion for his possible replacement. The biggest names so far have been Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston, Gillian Anderson, and, most recently, Jamie Bell. According to Deadline, the 30-year-old actor, currently playing the lead role in AMC’s Revolutionary War drama TURN, has reportedly talked with the franchise’s producers about taking on the role of Bond.
Bell doesn’t seem like the type of actor most Bond fans would immediately think of when considering who could play the classy spy, but maybe that’s for the better. He has a very youthful appearance, which has often type-casted him into that type of role, although that could allow for a different take on Bond. Bell could possibly be a naive and inexperienced version of the character, unlike Craig’s depiction that showed Bond’s aging through the films.
Despite the role being a hefty one to fill, there are plenty of good options available, with Bell being one of the odder yet still smart choices. Bond 25 does not have an official release date but once the lead casting is eventually completed we should be getting an announcement sometime soon.
Bell’s most recent film appearance was in last year’s box office bomb Fantastic Four. He will next be seen in 6 Days with Abbie Cornish (Limitless) and will soon reprise his voice role in the Adventures of Tintin sequel.
