Deadline reports that Witcher and Mission Impossible actor Henry Cavill will join actress and musician Eiza González in director Guy Ritchie and producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. The film, based on journalist and historian Damien Lewis’ book of the same name, chronicles the unorthodox and belligerent methods of early British black ops units in World War II. Ritchie and Bruckheimer, known for developing the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, aim to establish the IP into a new franchise.
Cavill will be the leader of the “ungentlemanly” black ops team. Cavill has recently confirmed his return to staring as Superman after briefly appearing DC’s Black Adam. Additionally, it was recently announced that Cavill would be relinquishing the role of Geralt in Netflix’s The Witcher to Liam Hemsworth for the show’s third season.
González, best known for her roles in Godzilla vs. Kong, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, Bruckhimer’s Ambulance, and Ritchie’s Baby Driver, will be playing opposite Cavill as a sniper with a knack for espionage.
Initially distributed by Paramount, the film will instead be distributed through Black Bear Pictures, which recently started production on Dumb Money, a movie about the GameStop Wall Street saga. The company will also be producing Immaculate, starring Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney.
