Disney took the opportunity to hype Zootopia 2 at the Annecy Animation Festival on Friday. Writer/co-director Jared Bush showed an excited audience a preview of the sequel to the massively successful 2016 Oscar-winner, Zootopia.
The preview featured the lovable duo, bunny cop Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and sly fox Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), as they get into trouble during their undercover operation. New characters voiced by high-profile actors, Gary De’Snake (Ke Huy Quan), Nibbles Maplestick (Fortune Feimster) and Dr. Fuzzby (Quinta Brunson) were also included in the preview.
Bush described what to expect in the forthcoming movie:
The question of this movie is whether these two animals, who are so different, really have what it takes to stay together in the long run. In other words, if the first movie was like their honeymoon, this movie is what moving in feels like.
The movie takes a new direction with the leads exploring places like Marsh Market, home to Nibbles the beaver, and with them encountering new scenarios, like therapy with Brunson’s Dr. Fuzzby.
Byron Howard returns to co-direct with Bush who recently became Disney Animation’s chief creative officer. Yvett Merino is producing.
A teaser trailer released in May can be seen here. Zootopia 2 comes to U.S. theaters November 26.
